Organization structure

Forecast Section

The forecast and analysis department specializes in the following:

  • Analyzing the aviation and weather forecast data and information to serve all activities related to the economic, industrial and agricultural development.
  • Monitoring and following up the dangerous weather conditions and releasing anticipations and warnings to take the necessary precautions to protect the lives and properties.
  • Issuing anticipations and providing weather forecast services for the civil aviation and navigation based on the international standards through the forecast center attached to the airport and connected to the international information network.
  • Providing anticipations and weather forecasts for the sea ports, that set the safe routes for the ships and anticipating the storm routes and the weather conditions in order to take the required measures and procedures.
  • Issuance sea anticipation in order to protect the sea environment and fishing and helping in the sea pollution combat in coordination with the concerned parties.
  • Issuing anticipations for oil prospecting and transportation of oil and gas.
  • Preparing studies, reports and providing recommendations and scientific advice related to the fluctuating weather conditions.
  • Issuing license for providing forecast service and weather anticipation for companies, local institutions and global institutions.
  • Permitting government authorities, corporations and institutions to access weather forecast and anticipation services and monitoring the service provided to them.
  • Cooperating and coordinating with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and its specialized committees, concerning the anticipation, analyzing and the results of the international centers for anticipation.
  • Following up the International Civil Aviation Organization affairs concerning the forecast services.
  • Representing the State and participating in the international conferences concerned with anticipation and analyzing.
  • Drawing up the yearly training plan and special forecast courses, training and developing the staff of the department and encouraging the national cadres to work in the different weather forecast fields in coordination with the training authority.

Climate Section

The Climate Division has the following functions:

  • To check and analyze climate-related information received from meteorological stations, and higher atmospheric layers.
  • To conduct theoretical and applied research on climate-related data in order to examine phenomena resulting from climatic and weather changes.
  • To prepare and maintain statistics, monthly and annual reports, and summaries related to weather, climate, and rising and falling tides; and save the same as electronic copies for future reference.
  • To improve the methodologies, services, and applications related to climate information, so that it can be used in land planning, building designs, telecommunications, tourism, marketing, combating dryness, desertification, etc.
  • To provide information and recommendations; and to issue climate-related publications for all government sectors as well as public and private businesses.
  • To create an information bank that contains all climate-related publications on Qatar and the neighboring countries; and to keep meteorological records and maps using up-to-date techniques such that they are easily accessed for research purposes.
  • To apply state-of-the-art methods related to management of data, information and archives; to use the most advanced statistical methods to study climate-related information; and to promote information and data related to climate and rising and falling tides.
  • To take part in the application of all programs and projects implemented by international meteorological institutions through the QCAA programs, technical committees and workforces for the purpose of maintaining and analyzing climate-related information.
  • To represent the State of Qatar in climate-related meetings and conferences.
  • To train and qualify climate technicians and specialists.
  • To conduct climate-related research in order to provide climate-related information to businesses in all sectors.
  • To follow up ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) affairs with regard to meteorological services.
  • To draw up an annual plan for training courses that aim to train and qualify employees and motivate national cadres to work in all-climate related domains in collaboration with the designated training institutions.

Observation Section

The Obesrvation Section specializes in the following:

  • Supervising the organization, procedures and monitoring the different aviation factors through the weather forecast stations distributed on the sea, air to forecast all the weather and earthquake phenomenon.
  • Providing forecast information services to the forecast centers and climate information centers.
  • Drawing up studies and theoretical researches and scientific application in te physics fields in accordance with international standards.
  • Participation in the studies of setting up new forecast stations and developing the existing ones.
  • Evaluating the quality of work and the different forecasting methods from time to time and following up on the international developments in the forecasting field.
  • Following with the concerned authorities in the state on air pollution and the influence of air pollution on the air movement on earth.
  • Participation in the regional and international conferences concerned with forecast research and studies.
  • Participation in the implementation of tall the programs and projects related to the international weather forecast through the organization programs and its technical committees and the working groups in the weather forecast field.
  • Participation in the work groups related to the international civil aviation organization in relation to the weather forecast field.
  • Drawing up the yearly training plan and special forecast courses, training and developing the local member to work in the different weather forecast fields in coordination with the training authority.

Network Section

The Network Section specializes in the following:

  • Drawing up the technical specifications for all the devices and systems operating in the forecast authority.
  • Installing, operating, maintaining and developing the traditional and automatic forecast devices, communication devices, network and systems in the authority.
  • Exchanging information and findings of the domestic, regional and international forecast.
  • Working on setting up communication lines and local, regional and international networks and secure the wired and wireless and required frequencies to receive and send the information and the forecast results.
  • Participating in the implementation of the various programs and projects related to the international organizations of the weather forecast through organized programs and technical committees and the relevant working groups, related to the receiving and transmission systems and gathering and distribution information and the forecast networks and devices and its techniques.
  • Representing the country and participating in the international conferences and meetings related to the devices and communications and the special forecast networks.
  • Drawing up the yearly training plan and the courses related to the networks and forecast stations field.
  • Training and developing the department employees and encouraging the local members to work in the different fields of the weather forecast networks in coordination with the concerned training authority.
